Automatic platform fallback

Below your key, on the same tab, there’s an independent switch: “Automatic platform fallback” — on by default. It doesn’t depend on whether you have an own key configured or not; you can adjust it at any time.

If your own key fails in a confirmed way (never because of a passing network glitch or a one-off timeout) and your plan still has quota available, the platform answers that turn with its own key so your assistant isn’t left without a reply.

  • That turn is billed as normal usage of your plan — not your provider’s — and shows up in the “Fallback” row of the breakdown by source (section 5), never mixed in with “Your own key”.
  • You’ll get a notice (bell and, depending on your preferences, email) the first time it happens each day — not one per turn, so you aren’t flooded with notifications if the problem persists all day.
  • If you turn off fallback, or if your plan has no quota available at that moment, that turn fails with an honest message instead of generating a cost you wouldn’t see reflected on your own provider’s bill.
  1. In Settings → Bring your own AI provider, find the “Automatic platform fallback” section, below your key.
  2. Click the switch.

Result: the change is saved instantly — there’s no separate “Save” button for this setting.
