What API keys are and what they're for

An API key is a secret credential that lets you call the Platform’s REST API from your own code (a script, a backend, an external CRM…) without going through the login form: instead of email and password, your integration sends the key on every HTTP request. It’s the mechanism meant for M2M integrations (machine-to-machine) — automations, syncs with other systems, your business’s internal scripts — never for a person to log into the Platform’s own interface with it.

Both key types (section 2) are managed from two different screens, with the same creation procedure:

  • Profile → My API keys: your personal keys (section 4).
  • Settings → API keys: the company’s keys, visible only to administrators (section 5).

Note — Don’t confuse this with “Bring your own AI provider”

Next to API keys in Settings there’s a sibling tab, Bring your own AI provider (if your plan includes it, Manual 76): it’s a completely different thing. An API key (this manual) is for YOUR code to call the Platform from the outside; your AI provider key (Manual 76) is your own OpenAI, Anthropic, Google or DeepSeek account so the Platform uses it instead of the AI included in your plan. They share neither format nor management screen.
