If your key fails **3 times in 10 minutes** in a confirmed way (never because of a passing glitch), the platform automatically stops trying it and your card starts showing the **"Suspicious — may be failing"** badge. While it's in this state, and if you have fallback turned on (section 6), your conversations keep getting answered with the platform's key without interruption.

## Procedure: checking your key again

1. Check your account on your provider's panel (balance, key status, usage limits) — the most common cause of this state.
2. Go back to **Settings → Bring your own AI provider** and click **"Check again"**.

**Result:** if your key is working again, the notice confirms "Verified: your key is working correctly again" and the badge goes back to "Active". If it's still failing, the notice tells you plainly ("your key is still failing; check it with your provider or replace it") and the state stays as it was — nothing changes until the key actually works.

> **Note — Error notices never show technical text or your key**
>
> If something fails when adding, checking, or using your key, you always see a plain, generic notice (for example, inviting you to "Check again" or to review your provider) — never a technical error message from the provider, an internal code, or any fragment of your own key. This is a security decision: neither a malformed error message nor a text leak can ever expose part of your credential.
